Green dancong is one of our most fragrant teas. Due to the special drying process that involves both heating and cooling, the leaves can keep their original fragrance: orchid, lily, and lilac. This overwhelming flower bouquet is accompanied by the scent of fresh green grass. The aftertaste is mild and buttery with some refreshing, vivid buzz. Year after year, it brings the joy of spring into a cup.
The well-known phoenix oolongs are famous for their impressive fragrance and long-lasting, round, creamy flavor. The term dancong (单枞) originally meant phoenix teas all picked from one tree/bush. In recent times though it has become a generic term for all Phoenix Mountain (凤凰山, Fenghuang) oolongs.
Thanks to the partial, very gentle oxidation and a special dehydration technique, this tea retains all the primary, fresh fragrance character of the leaves. It is recommended for beginners and those new to tea, and is often referred to as the musk of teas, as its captivating fragrance will endear it to many. A lovely, fresh, floral and popular tea.
When brewed with 85 degree water, the first infusion is very soft, floral, hint of chamomile, buttery. The second infusion was vegetal, tulip scented, with a sweet aftertaste. The next infusion, the jasmine and greenish fresh notes intensified. It evoked the Spring mood.
Quantity: 5-6 grams per 150 ml.
Water temperature: 85ºC. From fresh, spring water or filtered water.
Brewing time: 10-15…seconds
Infusions: 4-6x
