The power of the old trees and the amazing harmony of flowery and tropical tastes give the essence of this unique tea.
We often talk about the specific effect of old tree teas, which is called chaqi (茶气). These effects are beyond the tastes and these can impact our bodies. This is one of the main elements of Chinese tea culture. This specific Milan Xiang ('Honey orchid' oolong) from hundred years old tea trees is really strong in effects. When tasting it, try to observe not just the tastes and smells, but observe yourself also. Is there any change in your perception, feeling, activity? Where did the tea take you?
Steamed gaiwan: dried fruits, sour cherry, tropical fruits, papaya, fig
Taste, feeling: At 90ºC the fruity and flowery tastes are stronger but at 95ºC the roasted tastes dominate. In the first steepings, we felt much more fruitiness, like papaya, fig, dried sour cherry, and flower honey. Later, some true floweriness came into view, meanwhile, there was that pleasant roasted feeling, which reminds us of walnutty pastry. The effect is dynamic, but not too much, it gave us calmness and desire to act at the same time. We felt a nice digestive sense in our stomachs.
Quantity: 5-6 grams per 150ml.
Water temperature: 90-95ºC. From fresh spring water or filtered water.
Brewing time: 10-15…seconds
Infusions: 6-8
