Duyun Maojian Fine Buds is a premium green bud tea from the Duyun area of Guizhou Province. Maojian (毛尖) literally means tender bud. The name comes from the fact that when the buds are freshly plucked, they are still covered with a small, soft, white fluff.

This tea meets all the criteria for a high quality green tea; it contains only buds, was plucked before the Qing Ming and is only processed by hand in an organic tea garden. The result is an airy green tea with an aftertaste that lingers like a breeze.

Due to the heavy rains in the early spring of 2024, this year's Duyun Maojian is a slightly darker green than the 2019 vintage. Our grower harvested a very small crop in 2020, the bushes were dormant, so this year's 2024 has a fuller, richer bud crop. He explained that tea bushes are very wise, they respond very well to environmental changes. They produce fewer white drooping buds (pekoe, 白毫) when it rains because they interfere with leaf drainage. The pekoe collects and retains moisture that was not needed that year. This allows the tea to develop deeper shades of green.

At 75 degrees, the first 15s infusion evokes the scent of butter beans, edamame and roasted pumpkin seeds. At 80 degrees, after 20s, the tea reflects the flavours of peanuts and tender peas. After 30s, the soft green of freshly cut grass subtly emerges. The next infusion at 95 degrees for 30s reveals an elegant bitterness with a long finish. At 90 degrees, after 40s you find yourself in a realm of undisturbable calmness. A truly beautiful flavour with a meditative finish.

Quantity: 5-6 gramm per 150ml.
Water temperature: 75-80ºC. From fresh, cold spring water or filtered water.
Brewing time: 10-12…seconds
Infusions: 4-5
