We visited our first producer in Nannuoshan in the autumn of 2014. The tea garden is in a great location, with trees that are over 200 years old as standard, but 500-600-year-old tea trees are not uncommon. We noticed that our producer traditionally rolls his teas longer and more vigorously. The traditionalists will certainly allow the tea to mature for 4-5 years so that the strong notes are well-rounded by then. In the case of these teas, which have been steeped longer, we also consider it necessary to age them during the spring break. The autumn harvests are much softer and rounder, thanks to the summer rains, so they can be consumed almost immediately after preparation. An excellent example of this is our 2022 Autumn Tea, which is already a wonderful experience. This autumn puer has a nice roundness, sweetness and definitely a tropical smell, typical of the southern mountains. What was also very interesting for us was that while in the autumn of 2014 the disc was made of 400-500 year old trees, due to inflation and the great interest we now get leaves from 200-500 year old trees at a higher price than then. The value of large trees is increasing. It's worth taking some of the tea, it will grow nicely, and for those new to puer teas it can be a good experience as it is already calm, smooth and round.
The tea's scent is initially smoky and slightly woody, with a pleasant peachy fruitiness developing in the later infusions, enriched by a subtle note of fresh peach skin on the finish. The taste is well-balanced, with a clear depth that is gradually complemented by new layers. The later infusions also reveal a slight green colour, a hint of astringency and more pronounced flavours, showing the potential of the tea to mature. As the infusions progress, resinous and pine notes emerge, bringing fresh and lively flavours that harmonise well with the tea's complex aromas.
Quantity: 5-6 gramm per 150ml.
Water temperature: 85ºC. From fresh spring water or filtered water.
Brewing time: 15-20...seconds
Infusions: 8-12
