Description

Bud-only, very early Spring plucking, natural, high-altitude environment.

Premium green bud-tea from the Duyun area, Guizhou. The name, Maojian (毛尖) literally means hairy tip—when the buds and young leaves are plucked, they are covered with small, whitish hair. Read the full story of this remarkable tea in the blogpost on Duyun Maojian.

Due to the heavier rain in early spring 2021, this year’s Duyun Maojian is a bit darker green in colour compared to the previous one we had (vintage 2019). The bushes are very smart, they grow less white pekoe as the small white furs affect the drainage of the leaves. Our producer had only harvested a very small crop last year so the bushes grew more heavy, richer buds this year.

This tea embodies the idea of a perfect green tea. The first tiny buds were hand-picked before Qing Ming from an organic tea garden. The leaves’ high quality and the fineness of a hand-crafted tea leads to a tender primal character, followed by a long-lasting aftertaste.

Tasting notes:
Lotus seed, roasted chestnut, peach skin,  lovely bit of soft astringency, light greenness of pine needles. Long lasting, tickling aftertaste.

Quantity: 5-6 gramm per 150ml.
Water temperature: 75-80ºC. From fresh, cold spring water or filtered water.
Brewing time: 10-12…seconds
Infusions: 4-5
