Description

Yue Guang Bai (月光白, moonlight white) is a special white tea from Yunnan Province, South China. The freshly opened tea cakes have a vivid, flowery fragrance that later reappears in the infusions. Its taste is characterised by tropical fruits and a slight spiciness.

The appearance is the first thing one must notice – each leaf has a shining ‘white’ side while the other side is deep purple or red. This duality comes from the processing. After plucking and withering the leaves, they are dried under the light of the Moon.

It is also worth noting that in contrast with the average Fujian white teas, this one comes from Yunnan’s older puer trees. Due to the old trees its chaqi is quite deep and has a nice warming and vitalising effect on the body.

The 360 years old tea-garden was severely damaged in 1955: the branches were cut back in order to make plucking easier. For a few years now the garden has a new owner who is trying to restore the farm into its natural state.
