Dian Hong (滇紅, Yunnan red) is a relatively high end Chinese black tea, coming from Yunnan province, China. While processing the tea the buds become golden-yellow, the darker, fuller bodied lower leaves. This Dian Hong is a particularly deep tea, its primal soft, woody-nutty notes soon turn into long-lasting aftertaste with a hint of cocoa. Thanks to old trees (古树, gushu) it has quite intense chaqi (茶氣, tea energy) that, combined with decent caffeine-content, results a characteristic, energising tea. With its great warming effect it is a perfect tea for colder days.
Mengsong is one of the southernmost tea-growing mountain area, which, in contrast with many others puer areas, still preserves its natural environment. With its hardly passable roads and the lack of human intervention it seems as tough it was an arboretum.
