Yue Guang Bai (月光白, moonlight white) is a special white tea from Yunnan Province.
The fresh, dry leaves have a soft fragrance of honey and chamomile flowers. When infused, the smell deepens and a new layer appears.
Due to its chaqi, the tea has great warming and vitalising effect on the body. Its silky aftertaste is sweet and long-lasting.
The tea has very similar fragrance to the aged Shou Mei whites of Fujian province.
The appearance is the first thing one must notice – each leaf has a shining ‘white’ side while the other side is deep purple or red. This duality has its cause in the process it is made with. After plucking and withering the leaves, they are dried under the light of the Moon.
Mengsong is one of the southernmost alpine tea-growing area, which, in contrast with many others puer areas, still preserves its natural environment. With its hardly passable roads and the lack of human intervention it seems as tough it was an arboretum.
